Privacy & storage.
What stays here, what syncs, and when another service is contacted.
Using Pocket Room as a guest
Your room, notes, and reading text are saved in this browser. Pocket Room does not request camera, microphone, location, notifications, or clipboard access. A file picker lets you select a PDF; it does not grant access to your other files.
Signing in and cloud saving
Signing in sends your email to the authentication service to deliver a sign-in link. Your room, collection titles, notes, pasted reading text, and reading/session progress sync through Supabase. HTTPS protects the connection. These records are not end-to-end encrypted: the service infrastructure and authorized project administrators can process them. Access between accounts depends on the backend’s ownership rules.
PDFs and shared devices
PDF files and filename/reference fields stay in browser storage for the account that attached them; they are excluded from new cloud saves. Older cloud versions may still contain earlier filename/reference metadata until a new room version replaces them. Signing out clears this account’s cached room and owned PDF records on this device. Keep the original files. Older PDFs saved before account separation may need uploading again; old unowned records are not opened automatically. On a shared device, use the browser’s site-data controls to remove any older copies.
Browser storage is not a secure vault against another person who controls your browser profile or device. Use your own profile for private information. Guest data remains on the device until you remove the site’s browser data.
Book cover images
Uploaded front, back and spine images are resized in your browser and stored only on this device for the account that uploaded them. They are not sent to cloud room storage, and sign-out clears these images. Keep originals: room backups contain layout and cover references, not uploaded image files. Online search sends the title or ISBN you type to Open Library. Search results and selected online covers load from covers.openlibrary.org, sharing connection information such as your IP address. Your room and uploaded images are not sent to Open Library. Online cover IDs and book display choices can sync with your room. A device loads online images only after you use search or choose Load online covers.
External books and music
Archive.org and Spotify open only when you choose their named links. Direct audio waits until you choose the named host’s load button and requires HTTPS. Visiting or loading another provider shares connection information, such as your IP address, with that provider. Pocket Room does not send your room or notes to these media providers. Closing the soundtrack panel keeps playback available; Stop soundtrack ends direct audio and the decorative animation.
Backups and deletion
A room backup contains your notes and pasted reading text as a readable JSON file. It does not include PDF files. Keep backups private. Cloud conflict resolution downloads a backup before loading another version, as described beside that action. Signing out clears device copies; it does not delete the cloud account or cloud room.
Service information
